Chapter Twelve

Two weeks later, following the memorial service for Darnell, close friends and family had gathered to Sam and Patricia’s house in Miramar. All day long, Vashon stood outside in the backyard away from around his family. Truth be told, he didn’t want to be at the memorial services, for the apparent reason that he couldn’t sit up in the church mainly in front of his aunt and uncle face knowing the truth.

While Vashon stood up against the wall sipping a soda, he glanced up to see Tiffany approaching him. A smile beamed across his face. Definitely, Vashon became captivated by Tiffany’s stunning beauty, his heart started to pound a thousand times. Vashon relaxed himself as Tiffany got closer to him. Vashon gulped down the rest of his soda wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

Tiffany got closer to Vashon giving him a hug also a kiss on the cheek. For Tiffany, she hasn’t seen Vashon since he’d decided to drop out of school to make money on the streets. Tiffany was delighted to see Vashon once again even if it was on a sad day.

“Thank you for coming by to support me and my family, Tiffany. It truly means a lot,” Vashon stated smiling.

“You’re welcome, besides your aunt and uncle were so kind to me, especially Nasir,” Tiffany chuckled.

“Yeah I saw my lil’ brother hanging around you,”

“How you’re doing Shon?”

Vashon sighed lightly, he shrugged his shoulders: “I’ll be alright; all I want to do is move on with my life.”

“Well I’m pretty sure you also Nasir can stay here at the house with your aunt and uncle,” she assumed.

“Tiffany, I don’t think that’s a good idea at the moment. Besides, I know for certain Nas wants to come home and be around me. I promise my lil’ brother I’ll look after him, I can’t let him down,”

Tiffany took Vashon by his hand and with her other hand, she began stroking the side of his face: “Shon, how do you plan to take care of yourself as well as Nasir? You’re sixteen years old, being around family is what you need at the moment.” she mentioned.

Right now, Vashon was growing irritated with Tiffany pressuring him to stay with his family. He had plans to do what he needed to do too take care of himself and Nasir. At the moment, Vashon sensed Tiffany is doing her very best to ruin his plans. Apparently, Vashon had no plans to stay with family since they weren’t around to see about the life him and Nasir were living when they stayed with their mother as well as the plenty of men she had coming around them every time.

“Tiffany, I can’t stay here with my family alright. I have plans, I’m not going to let anything interfere with those plans,” Vashon griped. “Can you please leave it alone?”

“Alright Shon, I’m simply trying to help you,”

“I know one thing how you can help me, Tiffany,”

“What’s that?”

“Go out on a date with me next week?” he asked her.
